What we do

The Mayor of Kendal’s Fund for the Aged & Infirm is a registered charity providing almshouses in Kendal.  The Fund was founded in 1948 to provide affordable homes for elderly, infirm persons living in Kendal or the immediate vicinity.

The Charity is run entirely by volunteers.  The ten trustees, all of whom live in Kendal are actively involved by visiting the occupants on a regular basis.  The Mayor of Kendal is Chairman of the Fund and an ex-officio Trustee.

The Charity is a member of The National Association of Almshouses.  Following a visit in 2013 by a representative of the Association and the High Sheriff of Cumbria excellent feedback was received including comments that they 'were very impressed with the standard of housing and the way in which it is run'  and that “they were particularly pleased to note that trustees each have a section of residents 'under their wing' who are visited regularly.”
